FORCEPS

PROBLEM: A problem exists in handling fragile tissue and grafts with conventional forceps. With current instruments, the closing force exerted is transmitted directly and proportionally to the tips. This means that the surgeon needs to be aware of the pressure exerted on the tissue during manipulation. Too little will result in slippage, and too much force could result in puncturing, tearing, abrasion or scoring, possibly compromising healing and, ultimately, the surgical result. Whether the clinician's choice is a rat-toothed (Adson), conventionally serrated, or a 'diamond dusted' forceps, the surgeon must always pay strict attention to the applied squeezing force of traditional forceps.

SOLUTION: The Pressure Limiting Atraumatic Forceps by Laschal
The Pressure Limiting Atraumatic Forceps by Laschal is a unique approach that provides a new dimension of safety to conventional forceps. The distal end is fitted with male-female interlocking sleeves providing 'stress relief'. Additional stress relief is achieved by incorporating extensions made from flexibly resilient stainless steel. With the tissue doubly protected from over-compression, the tips are then fitted with serrated tungsten carbide inserts, having 7,000 serrations/sq.in. The result is a forceps that provides extraordinary gripping efficiency, while at the same time protecting the tissue against pressure-induced trauma during manipulation.
